Christina works tirelessly every day to ensure not only that her preschool nutrition department is ran smoothly but Christina is the first to always ask if help is needed anywhere in the district if schools are working short. Christina goes ABOVE and BEYOND on keeping her meals relevant and meals that kids are interested in and enjoy. She is always up to date on SNA news and guidelines. She prides herself on her job. Christina leaves no rock unturned. Christina is a joy to work with and a joy to her little kiddos in the preschool. She is the most deserving person I know.

Myla Perry at Rosa Parks Elementary School in Middletown, OH is amazing! She is the success liaison at my school and works with families to provide backpacks of food for weekends among several other services. One of my kindergartners just this week told me he was taking home his breakfast instead of eating it because his mom works so much that there’s not much food in the house for his little sister. I contacted Myla and she was on it right away connecting the family with services. I don’t know what we would do without her!

I want to express my gratitude to the school staff for their dedication to nurturing our children's lives and filling their hearts with love every day. When I was growing up, my school didn't offer school lunch. But, I always remember the kindness of my teachers and their faces. Even today, remembering those moments makes me feel loved.

Teachers were my safe place growing up, because of teachers like you, I was able to grow to be a well-rounded, healthy, and kind adult. To this day, I visit them. (I’m 26) I’ve gone back and visited my kindergarten teacher for 20 years, because she – like you – cared. She was kind & safe. I didn’t have safety at home, but my teachers raised me. YOU are that hero for so many. Each kid that you give a smile, water, snack, and safe space to is better because of you. THANK YOU for being a literal Super Hero. You deserve 4x the pay, yet you still show up, selflessly. So thank you. Keep your head up and know that you are changing the world. Thank you thank you.

Katie Greene ensures that all students who need/want go home with a bag of food each Friday. She organizes this program for our school and delivers food bags to each students locker to make sure that they have food throughout their weekend. For many of our students the food that they get from school is all that they have so having Ms Greene there to help ensure that they are able to eat even when we’re not at school is truly a blessing to all of us!

Growing up my mother was a cafeteria worker and I remember hearing her worry about the kids whose only meal for the day was at school. She would often bring in extra veggies from her home garden and homemade pickles to share just so they would have a little extra! My son and I had the privilege of meeting not one but a lot of amazing teachers at Juniata Park Academy and CAPA. We still keep in touch with these amazing teachers and principals. Amanda affectionately calls Ms. D, Mrs. Stacey Meiklejohn-Reeves, Mrs. Annette Patterson, Mrs. Peggy Stear, Dr. Linda Keele Mrs. Michelle Johnson, and last but not least my first music teachers who noticed my gifts, my love for books, and music. Mrs. Jacqueline Garden-Marshall, BethAnn Scamby, and Brian Ewing, my High School music teacher. I will never forget the impact each of these wonderful human beings made on my life. I have to mention the three principles that encouraged me when I was being bullied were Mrs. Kimberly Byrd, Mrs. Tammy Lind-Butikis, and Mrs. Joan Richie. I wanted to give them their flowers. I appreciate them all .

Most of all, they were always so dedicated to the students and being a positive part of our day. Nanette and Sue are people I look forward to seeing at work everyday! They are friendly, personable, and truly care about doing great work. They take pride in their work, and really focus on making the kitchen an inviting place and presentation. They greet students by their name, get to know them, and are helpful and kind when students need help. You can see them decorating the lunchroom doors for the season, wearing spirit wear to celebrate fun days, and honoring other staff during recognition days. Nanette and Sue are people that make Hitchcock a fun place to work and are outstanding assets to our school.

She is my school hero because she shows leadership, compassion, and understanding to all of her staff members as well as to her students. She has the natural ability to work with people and also to turn out very delicious meals. She meets with her staff each Friday to see if they have any ideas or suggestions that they want to share with her. Everyday, we have 100+ students that participate in 2nd Chance Breakfast. Jeannette is a trailblazer in the sense that she is piloting a program that our district has never adopted before in the past. She understands the value of breakfast and she wants to identify the barriers that are keeping kids from eating breakfast and find ways around those barriers in order to make breakfast accessible for all students. Thus far, we have experienced early success! Jeannette possess a can-do attitude and is always focused on solutions. The restaurant quality of the food at Duchesne’s lunch program is due to the care and management of Joel and Tyree. Meals like honey pepper salmon with béarnaise sauce and wild rice pilaf get eagerly devoured by students and staff alike. In fact, the salmon dish was mentioned by every staff member. The students were all sending photos of the salmon to their moms. If the way to a person’s heart is through her stomach, then Joel and Tyree have earned a big part of the heart of the Duchesne community!

We are fortunate to have Orie on our D15 team. She plays an essential role, as Assistant Cook, at PS 130. Orie is recognized for putting student dietary interests first. She engages in menu discussions with the Student Council. The feedback she receives creates buzz and awareness and call to action. Students mentioned that the packaged bean burritos are hot like “lava”. She now allows the product to rest for 5 minutes before service. As well, students mentioned that the packaged grilled cheese is too hot to handle and open. Orie now cooks the grilled cheese without the package. Students see these measurable changes and are grateful.
